PIRATES toppled the X-Men
'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest' is the top grossing film of 2006. The second instalment of the swashbuckling adventure series made $62.2 million in its second weekend - bringing its total takings so far to $258.2 million.
'Dead Man's Chest' has already toppled the previous top grossing film 'X-Men: The Last Stand' - which made $232 million in eight weeks.
Disney's head of distribution Chuck Viane said: "It's really fun when you're riding a comet like this. This thing is just unbelievable. It creates its own wake.
